What is H beam?
H beam, also known as steel beam, is a long steel bar with an H shaped cross-section. H beams are divided into common H beams and light H-beams. It is a section steel with an H-shaped cross-sectional shape.
Manufacturing Process of H beams
- Raw material preparation: Select carbon steel or low-alloy steel billets (including recycled scrap steel), clean the surface defects and preheat them to 1100-1300℃.
- Smelting: Through blast furnace – converter or electric furnace smelting, control the composition of elements such as carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus to meet the performance requirements.
- Rolling (core):Hot rolling: Rough rolling to form rectangular billets, and then through profile rolling machines (ordinary I-beam steel) or universal rolling machines (H-beam steel) for further shaping, multiple passes of rolling to form a I-shaped cross-section.Cold rolling: For small-sized or high-precision products, it requires subsequent annealing treatment.
- Cooling and straightening: After hot rolling, cool down and use the straightening machine to correct the bending deformation.
- Subsequent processing: Cut to fixed lengths, remove rust and prevent rust (acid washing, galvanizing, etc.), and perform heat treatment as needed (annealing, quenching, etc.).
- Quality inspection: Check dimensions and appearance defects, test mechanical properties (tensile, bending) and internal non-destructive testing.

- High strength: The flange and web both have a large cross-sectional area, capable of withstanding large loads. The cross-sectional shape is reasonable, allowing the full utilization of the mechanical properties of steel.
- Good stability: The cross-sectional shape is stable, less prone to deformation and instability, and can maintain good stability during use, ensuring the safety of the structure.
- Convenient construction: The cross-sectional shape is simple, easy to process and manufacture. At the construction site, it can be connected with other components through welding, bolt connections, etc., with a faster construction speed and higher construction efficiency.
- Good economy: The production process is mature, and the cost is relatively low. Due to high strength and good stability, it can reduce the steel usage of the structure and lower the project cost.
- Light weight: Compared with conventional building materials such as square tubes and angle irons, it is lighter when subjected to the same load, which can reduce the weight of the building itself.
